We take a look at what is considered to be Jean Claude Van Damme's breakout movie but, of course, we dispute that.
It has an Oscar winner hiding in there somewhere, a pair of inept cops, a reporter who has forgotten how to investigate a story, a fighting contest that becomes a tourist attraction, a guy that develops deep a lasting friendships in just under 4 days and a lot of JVCD doing the splits.

Directed by John Carpenter, this is considered to be a classic but, whoa there, Charlie and Amanda might have other ideas.
Starring Kurt Russell, Donald Pleasance, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Issac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau and Harry Dean Stanton, this paints a dystopian vision of the future (which is actually our past).
We marvel at the lack of CGI, considering this was post-Star Wars, wonder where the eye patch came from and also if it has any parallels with what's going on today.
Oh, and we get allegory and metaphor mixed up (but definitely know the meaning of irony).

Listen in astonishment as Amanda gives it an truly unbelievable score out of 10, marvel at Charlie's adulation, appreciation and love of the entire film, a Robert Downey Jr reference that (predictably) makes Amanda go all mushy and wonder 'where are all the adults in this film?'

Sorry for the delay but we're back and this time dealing with the dark film that is Less Than Zero (1987).
With that darkness, while there's no swearing, there are vague references to more serious issues so perhaps not one for the juniors this time..
We look at what happens when a film studio take the source material and then make a different film, the loneliness affecting each character and, of course, I praise James Spader to the hilt (again).

We take a look at the 1987 film 'Mannequin' starring Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall and James Spader (who can do no wrong).
We are joined by our budding film reviewer (aka daughter) Amy who has a different theory on mortality, Amanda gets slightly riled as she confuses Clint Eastwood with Sylvester Stallone and I try to make sense of how nobody in the entire city can see a doll come to life.
As ever, there's 'Little Does She Know' where the girls work together and Amy earns her guessing stripes.
